Hello, you wonder women! It's M. here, (blogger, content creator, social media strategist & lover of pizza) & I have a question for you: does your business have a blog? If you answered "yes," you rock! If you answered "no," I'm gonna follow up with my next question: Why not? I'm a firm believer that every business should have a blog, & today I'm listing out *just a few* of my reasons WHY.
Branding is Everything.
Listen: your brand is how you differentiate yourself from your competition. Your brand is how you establish those super-important touchy-feely emotional connections with your customers.
Your blog is your platform for your business to spread the good word & engage with your people. Your blog is your chance to tell your business' story. Your blog is your social media content. Your blog feeds your content marketing.
The Proof is in the Pudding: You are the Expert.
Think of your blog as your opportunity to brag. Show off how much you know. This is the cool-kid way to do it.
Think of your blog as a way to build trust with your people. The more you are proving to your people that you know what the heck you're talking about, the more they keep turning to you in search of answers. People do business with those that they know & trust, & as you continue to churn out quality content, you continue to establish yourself as an expert in your industry.
Your Digital Marketing Needs You.
Look at it this way: Your blog can become an integral part of your sales funnel. (Say, what?! YES!) It can also be a place to capture leads for email marketing. (You know that your email list is gold, right?!)
- Plugins & Tools: create lead capture forms that pop up as people are reading your content.
- Links: at the end of your post, pop in a link that tells them exactly where they should go next.
Build that Community.
Your blog is giving you the ability to stir up conversation. The followers you attract with your content build cute little online communities. Always, always, always have a call-to-action in your posts. Ask them a thought-provoking question, get them engaged by telling them to write a comment with their thoughts & answers. Doing this is like personally handing them a party invitation to join the growing community you’re creating.
SEO Strategy, Strategy, Strategy.
"Search Engine Optimization." The words that every online business obsesses over, am I right?! Higher rankings equate to more traffic, & more traffic leads to more customers. Yes, SEO has lots of moving parts, but listen up: content will always be the foundation of it.
So here's the nerdy need-to-know on SEO + Blogging:
- Your blog attracts backlinks from other sites
- Written content incorporates varied keywords, which help you rank for specific terms in search results
- Images rank separately in SEO & by utilizing alt-text on your images, you can use them for a boost (always use the alt-text!)
- Video is freaking awesome for SEO, & your blog offers a no-brainer place to embed your videos from your platform of choice
Other boxes to check, in regards to SEO + Blogging:
- connect with other blogs
- build backlinks
- guest posts
All this stuff will further support your efforts in organic search.
Innovation is Necessary.
Because content is the Queen Bee. You will always be exploring your industry in order to come up with new ideas for content. As you dig around & delve deeper, you're leaning in & learning tons more about the game you're playing. New ideas & innovation are bound to develop in the form of more complex & creative posts, & eventually, more ideas for your company. Because we all know: to stay in the game, you must always be innovating!
Your PR Plan Needs a Compliment.
Your blog is your business' voice, especially for PR purposes. When you need to post a press release or make a big announcement, your blog can make that happen.
Remember this: public relations is not an ad or commercial. Public relations is an understanding of your target audience; it's building a connection & credibility with them.
Guess what?! Your blog is also your direct line of communication with your people. They know you, they like you, they are watching what you do. Engage with your people & build a deeper relationship. If they are talking to you, keep the chatter alive. Converse with them via social media comments & answer back when they leave comments on your posts. Keep building trust in your people's eyes. Take care of the people that take care of you.
